Normally I write about things I’ve done, but today I am reporting about a wonderful upcoming event taking place next weekend. The San Francisco Street Food Festival, now in its fourth year, is one of the best and most exciting food happenings of the year. The festival is sponsored by La Cocina, the groundbreaking business incubator program that helps low income women and immigrant food entrepreneurs create successful and sustainable small businesses. They provide affordable, commercial kitchen space, buisness and marketing training, as well as assistance navigating city regulations and license requirements. This year they are kicking off the annual event with a first ever evening market on Friday August 17th from 6-9. The Friday event is intended to recall the vibrant night markets found in exotic cities like Bangkok, Mexico City, or Seoul and will take place at the Alemany Farmers Market. The $25 admission to attend the night market goes to support La Cocina. The lineup of vendors looks amazing, and there is a free shuttle from the 24th St. BART station to make it easy to get there. The main festival on Saturday the 18th features over 80 vendors and takes place from 11am-7pm. It is located on Folsom Street between 20th and 26th streets. Entry to Saturday’s festival is free, but donations are encouraged for those that are able, to help support La Cocina programs. Food vendors accept cash or you can save time and money buy pre-purchasing passport tickets online. The delicious food at this festival has more heart and soul than anything your can find anywhere in the city and supports an amazing organization. See you at the festival!
